چکیده
Coastal forests can increase the resilience of seaside communities against natural disasters. These also provide other benefits, including food and an avenue for economic growth. The Dakenggu community in Suao, Yilan (Taiwan), is adjacent to a coastal forest with area nearly 114,000 m2. Artificial plantation has been performed locally this since 1977 prevent loss beaches. was estimated through drone aerial photography combined geographic information system. We found that Pandanus tectorius (11.5%), Casuarina equisetifolia (30.8%), Cerbera manghas (4.07%), Hibiscus tiliaceus (5.2%), grass (23.52%) are dominant species plant Dakenngu forest, which together accounted 75.1% total land area. covered by different examined as well. height diameter at breast (DBH) main tree five transects were surveyed, we some significant differences among correspond cohorts planted times Forestry Bureau. survey crabs same over months infer any crab transects. transect dominated H. had larger population than others. revealed mudflat Chiromantes haematocheir prefers live under tiliaceus. Finally, propose recommendations improving biodiversity so it become sustainable resource its residents.

Changes in bacterial community structure associated with coastal copper enrichment.
Marine bacterial communities isolated from the water column, sediment, the rock surface, and the green seaweed Ulva compressa were studied in an intertidal ecosystem. The study area included a coastal zone chronically affected by copper mine waste disposals. Bacterial community composition was analyzed by terminal restriction fragment length polymorphism (T-RFLP) of 16S rRNA genes, and multivar...
متن کاملPerceptions of environmental changes and Lethargic crab disease among crab harvesters in a Brazilian coastal community
BACKGROUND Lethargic Crab Disease (LCD) has caused significant mortalities in the population of Ucides cordatus crabs in the Mucuri estuary in Bahia State, Brazil, and has brought social and economic problems to many crab-harvesting communities that depend on this natural resource. The present work examined the perceptions of members of a Brazilian crab harvesting community concerning environme...
متن کاملBacterial Community Associated with Organs of Shallow Hydrothermal Vent Crab Xenograpsus testudinatus near Kuishan Island, Taiwan
Shallow-water hydrothermal vents off Kueishan Island (northeastern Taiwan) provide a unique, sulfur-rich, highly acidic (pH 1.75-4.6) and variable-temperature environment. In this species-poor habitat, the crab Xenograpsus testudinatus is dominant, as it mainly feeds on zooplankton killed by sulfurous plumes. In this study, 16S ribosomal RNA gene amplicon pyrosequencing was used to investigate ...
متن کاملChanges in forest structure and composition associated with unique land use histories: Implications for restoration
Many contemporary semi-arid forests of western North America are denser and have a greater proportion of shade tolerant species relative to preEuro-American settlement. While many causes have been invoked to explain these changes, the active suppression of fire since the early 1900s has been the most widely studied and cited. However, widespread logging in western North American forests has oft...
متن کاملNeonatal tetanus mortality in coastal Kenya: a community survey.
In a house-to-house survey in Kilifi District, Kenya, mothers of 2556 liveborn children were interviewed about neonatal mortality, especially from neonatal tetanus (NNT). The crude birth rate was 60.5 per 1000 population, the neonatal mortality rate 21.1 and the NNT mortality rate 3.1 per 1000 livebirths. The neonatal and NNT mortality rates were higher in boys than in girls. Neonatal tetanus w...
